Gennaio, ascolta il suono della novità.

Durante un fine settimana all'insegna del relax ho visitato una gastronomia unica nel suo genere, la storica ditta Procacci dove provare deliziosi panini tartufati e degustare un bicchiere di vino. Dopo la sosta ristoratrice ho proseguito la mia passeggiata per le strade di Firenze, con la mia casual handbag firmata Linda Damiani. Una vetrina in particolare ha catturato il mio sguardo, la Libreria Gozzini, ricca di volumi unici e di storie d'un tempo passato, come mi ha raccontato un libraio dai modi gentili. Mi sono innamorata di un artista Sud-Africano, Wim Botha che crea delle sculture mai viste prima: guarderei i suoi lavori per ore. Ho concluso la mia giornata nella splendida Bottega di Corte dove tra oggetti d'antiquariato ricercati ed eleganti, ho trovato anche dei profumi e delle fragranze d'ambiente davvero speciali.

January, listen to the sound of a new beginning.

During a relaxing weekend in Florence, I visited a unique delicatessen, the historical “Procacci Shop”, where one can taste their delicious sandwiches made with truffle and sip a fine glass of wine. After this gastronomic stop, I wandered the streets of Florence with my casual handbag by Linda Damiani. In particular, a shop window captured my attention: Gozzini bookshop, where the founder showed me the precious and ancient books full of histories from the past. I fell in love with Wim Botha, a South-African sculptor who creates incredibly original sculptures. I could spend hours watching his works. I finished my day in the wonderful Bottega di Corte, where one can find elegant and polished antiques, special perfumes and air fresheners.

Procacci

La storica “ditta Procacci” si trova nel cuore di Firenze, nell’antica e prestigiosa Via de’ Tornabuoni.  Questa gastronomia, fondata nel 1885 da Leopoldo Procacci, con il suo patrimonio storico, artistico e artigianale, in breve tempo ha conquistato vasta fama tra i cittadini con le sue specialità legate alla lavorazione del tartufo che sono un'istituzione fiorentina rimasta ancora oggi intatta. Nel 1925 ha ricevuto lo Stemma Reale da Re Vittorio Emanuele III, con il Brevetto della Real Casa.creare una boutique del vino e del cibo prelibato in un ambiente casual ma allo stesso tempo sofisticato.

The historical “Procacci Shop” is located in the heart of Florence, on centuries old and prestigious Via de’ Tornabuoni. This delicatessen was founded by Leopoldo Procacci in 1885 and, due to its historical, artistic and artisan heritage, it quickly gained an excellent reputation with the Florentine population for its gastronomic delicacies made with truffles. In 1925 King Vittorio Emanuele II made the shop an official supplier to the royal family, granting its founder, Leopoldo Procacci, the right to include the royal coat of arms on his signage. The philosophy behind Procacci’s bistros is to create a casual yet sophisticated food and wine boutique.

Libreria Antiquaria Gozzini

La libreria Antiquaria è una delle librerie più antiche d'Italia. Aperta nel 1850 da Oreste Gozzini, era dapprima situata in Piazza del Duomo. Nel 1887 aveva una succursale a Roma, in via Sant'Ignazio, 44. In seguito, dopo vari trasferimenti nel 1959 l'attività prese sede in Via Ricasoli, di fronte alla Galleria del David di Michelangelo dove si trova attualmente. Gli arredi attuali risalgono al 1959 e furono realizzati all'epoca del trasferimento in questa sede. La libreria si estende su tre piani. viaggio nel tempo. Le migliaia di titoli sulle coste multicolori di migliaia di libri si affollano sugli scaffali gremiti.  I grandi poemi, romanzi, libri d'arte della letteratura Italiana e Straniera si alternano a trattati di geografia, chimica, guide, saggistica, architettura, musica, scienze, poesia e quant'altro possa destare l'attenzione di ricercatori, bibliofili curiosi o semplicemente amanti dei libri.

It is one of the most ancient Florentine bookshops. It was set up by Oreste Gozzini in 1850, initially in Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square). In 1887, it had a branch in Rome in via Sant'Ignazio 44. Thereafter, following several relocations, in 1959 it finally resettled in via Ricasoli, in front of the Gallery of the Academy of Florence. The furniture dates back to 1959 and was bought when the shop was moved to the present day premises. The bookshop occupies three floors. Time travel. The bookshelves are crammed with thousands of tomes, each with its multicolored title printed on the rib. You can find poems, novels, or art books, from Italian as well as foreign literature. Next to the fiction books, you will discover treaties of geography, chemistry, manuals, essays, architecture, music, science, poetry. Whatever can attract the attention of researchers, bibliophiles or just book-lovers, will be here.

Wim Botha

Wim Botha è nato nel 1974, cresciuto in un quartiere di periferia sul tratto orientale di Pretoria. Il lavoro dell’artista è radicato nella società in cui è vissuto e attinge all’iconografia popolare sudafricana. Le opere di Wim Botha sono caratterizzate dall’ assemblaggio di testi governativi, bibbie e diverse rappresentazioni testuali legate alle ideologie di potere. Nelle sculture do Botha, i libri assumono forme totalmente diverse dalla loro funzione originale. Invertendo l’immaginario visivo legato a questi testi, l’artista esprime il degrado sistemico delle rappresentazioni imposte dalle autorità politiche e religiose. Le sculture di Wim Botha consistono per lo più in ritratti anonimi che ricordano i busti classici, realizzati utlizzando i libri come materia prima. In questo modo l’oggetto si discosta dalla sua funzione usuale attraverso un vero e proprio sabotaggio dell’immagine e del concetto.

Wim Botha was born in 1974 and grew up in a suburban town, on the eastern side of Pretoria. His work is rooted in the society in which he has lived, and draws extensively from popular iconography. He uses government texts, written representations linked to power ideologies and bibles to create sculptures. In Botha's sculptures, books are given purposes which are completely different from their original ones. By subverting the vision people are used to have of these texts, the artist wants to convey the systemic decay of the representation which are imposed by political and religious authorities. Wim Botha's sculptures mostly consist of anonymous portraits that remind of classical busts, but are made with books. Thus, the object distances itself from its usual function and it goes through a real hijack of the image and the concept.
